Comparison of urinary specific gravity by refractometer and osmolality in 238 neonates
demonstrated as followings;
1) The regression line is represented by the equation:
Y = 107+14.2 (X-1000)
while Y = osmolality in mosm/kg
X = Specific gravity by refractometer
r=0.8545
2) Osmolality is the only accurate measure of urine concentration in newborn infants. If the specific
gravity by refractometer is used to screen for urine concentration, an elevated level... |

Hereditary elliptocytosis is characterized by elliptically shaped erythrocytes in peripheral blood
and known to be transmitted as an autosomal dominant trait, but in some cases, inherited recessively.
The clinical and hematologic expressions are variable range from healthy person with normal red cell
morphology to severe hemolytic anemia.
Recently, the authors experienced all three offsprings shown non-hemolytic hereditary el-
liptocytosis, whose parents were healthy persons with... |

Ureteropelvic junction obstruction has been discussed extensively in literature, but most reports
refer to adults or young children. Neonatal bilateral U-P-J obstruction has not been reported in
Korea. Herein we present with bilateral ureteropelvic junction obstruction in neonate. Repair was
achieved successfully using a non-intubated, nonstented, dismembered pyeloplasty.
Renal function shows normal during the follow-up periods.
